The Toomies MegaSketcher Lights Alive is a light-up drawing pad for children aged 3 and up, part of the Megasketcher range from TOMY. Instead of paper and pens, it uses a grid of 632 self-contained dots that light up with a satisfying pop when pressed, revealing coloured lights hidden underneath — a bit like popping bubbles, where once you start it's hard to stop. It's a mess-free, screen-free way for little ones to draw, colour and create the same picture over and over again.

The board comes with a clever dual-ended drawing tool: a nib at one end for lighting up the dots one by one, and a pizza-cutter-style roller at the other for drawing lines or sweeping back and forth to fill whole areas. Children can draw freehand or use one of the two included stencils — one featuring a friendly chameleon and another with a range of designs to place anywhere over the grid, so they can create butterflies, faces, hearts, houses, trees and more.

How it Works

  • Press-to-light dots: Each of the 632 dots lights up when you press it with the pen or roller, so the drawing appears as a pattern of glowing colour rather than ink on paper.
  • Hidden colours: There are 8 different colours hidden around the board — white and every colour of the rainbow — which light up brightly in the dark as well as in sunny daylight, so children can always see what they're drawing.
  • Animated effects: Pressing the button at the top brings a finished design to life, cycling the colours through a lively sequence, with 4 animated effects to choose from.
  • Erase and repeat: Once a picture is done it can be displayed on the built-in upstand at the back, then wiped clear so children can start again as many times as they like.
