The Mommy Material Milk It Silicone Valve is a replacement duckbill valve for your breast pump — the small soft part that regulates suction and keeps milk moving during each session. If your pump has started to feel weaker, or you're simply keeping a spare on hand, this is the wear component that restores the seal your pump relies on to express milk efficiently.
Made from durable, BPA-free silicone, the valve is designed to hold a consistent vacuum and help prevent milk from flowing back through the system. It's a milk-contact part, so it's easy to take apart, clean and sterilise, and quick to swap in when it's time. This valve is compatible with the Milk It Single and Double Wearable Breast Pumps.
How it works
- Duckbill design: Also called a duck valve, it has two flexible silicone flaps that stretch and release each time the pump motor pulls, creating the suction that draws milk from the breast.
- Vacuum seal: When the flaps close cleanly, the pump can maintain its vacuum; once they stretch, wear or split, suction drops and expression becomes less efficient.
- Backflow barrier: The valve helps keep milk from travelling back through the pump during a session.
When to replace it
Silicone valves are consumable — they stretch and soften with use, so replacing them on a sensible schedule keeps your pump working at its best:
- Replace roughly every month if you pump 3 or more times a day.
- Replace every 2–3 months if you pump less than 3 times a day.
- Replace sooner if you notice a small hole between the two flaps, milk backflow, or a general loss of suction — a good rule of thumb is to swap the valve whenever your pump feels like it's lost suction.
Cleaning and care
Wash the valve in hot, soapy water using a clean brush, and avoid the dishwasher — hand-washing helps extend the life of the silicone. The valve can also be sterilised along with your other milk-contact parts.
Best for
The Mommy Material Milk It Silicone Valve is a great option if you:
- Use a Milk It Single or Double Wearable Breast Pump and need a replacement duckbill valve
- Have noticed reduced suction and suspect a worn valve rather than a motor fault
- Like to keep a spare set on hand so a torn valve never interrupts your routine
Pandylane Pro Tip: Hold the valve up to the light when you inspect it — a tiny slit or hole between the flaps is easy to miss but is usually the reason suction has dropped off.
