The Beurer BY 110 Video Baby Monitor is a dedicated audio-and-video baby monitor that lets you keep an eye and ear on your little one from another room. It pairs a mains-powered nursery camera with a handheld parent unit that has its own 2.8" colour LCD screen, so you watch and listen on a device made for the job rather than through your phone. What it does

The BY 110 gives you several ways to stay aware of what's happening in the nursery. Sound and motion alerts flag activity, the room temperature display and alarm let you keep an eye on how warm or cool the room is, and range control sounds an acoustic warning if the parent unit moves out of connection range. Four gentle lullabies can be played and selected from the parent unit to help settle your baby, and the two-way intercom means you can respond with your own voice.

Camera and display

The nursery camera can be rotated manually to frame the cot, and a digital zoom lets you take a closer look from the parent unit. Night vision uses infrared so you can still see in a dark room. On the parent side, you can adjust the volume and display brightness to suit the time of day, and a sleep mode switches the display off automatically after 2, 5 or 10 minutes while sound monitoring continues — handy for saving battery through the night. A timer function (2, 3, 4 or 5 hours) is also built in. If you need to cover more than one room, the monitor supports up to 4 cameras (additional cameras are sold separately).

Range, power and load-shedding

Beurer quotes a range of up to 300 m in open-field conditions. In a real home, indoor range will be lower — walls, ceilings, Wi-Fi and other wireless devices all reduce it — which is why positioning matters (see the tips below). The parent unit runs on a built-in lithium-ion battery with approximately 8 hours of use (usage dependent) and charges via micro-USB, so it can move around the house with you between charges. Both the camera and parent-unit adapters run on 100–240 V AC. Note that the camera is mains-powered, so it will go off during load-shedding unless it's on a backup power source. ECO+ mode reduces transmission for more energy-efficient, low-emission operation.
