Tasectan Paediatric Diarrhoea Treatment Sachets are an anti-diarrhoeal treatment for children, containing gelatin tannate. Formulated for children from 3 months to 14 years of age, Tasectan Paed is designed to help reduce the frequency and duration of acute diarrhoea episodes — the kind of unsettling tummy upset that can come on quickly and leave both you and your little one exhausted.
Each sachet holds a fine powder that forms a protective film over the intestinal lining. This coating helps reduce fluid loss and limits contact between the bowel wall and common infectious agents. Because the powder is not absorbed into the bloodstream and works within the gut, it can be mixed into food or a cool liquid and given at home. Tasectan may begin working within approximately 12 hours.
How it works
- Gelatin tannate: Each sachet contains 250 mg of gelatin tannate, the single active in the formula.
- Protective coating: The powder forms a protective film over the intestinal wall, which helps reduce water loss during a diarrhoea episode.
- Barrier action: The film limits contact between the bowel wall and common infectious agents.
- Works in the gut: Gelatin tannate is not absorbed into the bloodstream — it acts locally within the digestive tract.
How to use
The powder may be added to food, mixed with a small quantity of milk, mixed with fruit juice, or mixed with water at room temperature. Mix well and give immediately. Do not mix with hot food or hot drinks.
Children under 3 years: Give 1 sachet every 6 hours until symptoms disappear.
Children 3 to 14 years: Give 1 to 2 sachets every 6 hours until symptoms disappear.
Do not exceed the recommended dose. Store at or below 25°C, keep sachets in the original packaging until required, protect from moisture and excessive heat, and do not freeze.
Best for
Tasectan Paed is a good option for parents who:
- Are managing an acute bout of diarrhoea in a child aged 3 months to 14 years
- Want a powder that can be mixed into food or a cool drink for easier administration
- Prefer a formulation that is not absorbed into the bloodstream and acts within the gut
Important hydration advice
Tasectan does not replace oral rehydration therapy. Children with diarrhoea should receive an appropriate oral rehydration solution to replace lost fluid and electrolytes. Continue breastfeeding and age-appropriate feeding unless a healthcare professional advises otherwise.
Safety and when to seek advice
Keep out of reach of children. Do not use if the sachet is damaged. Stop use and seek advice if an allergic reaction or worsening symptoms occur. Consult a healthcare professional before use if the child is younger than 3 months, has a chronic gastrointestinal condition, has severe dehydration, is taking other medication, or has a known allergy to gelatin or any ingredient.
Seek prompt medical care if the child has blood in the stool, green vomit, repeated vomiting, high or persistent fever, severe abdominal pain, a swollen abdomen, marked lethargy, signs of dehydration, poor fluid intake, diarrhoea lasting longer than expected, a chronic medical condition, or is under 6 months of age with significant diarrhoea. Urgent assessment is needed if the child is difficult to wake, unable to drink, has very little urine, or appears seriously unwell.
Pandylane Pro Tip: Because the powder must be given straight after mixing, prepare each dose only when you're ready to use it — stir it into a small amount of cool milk, juice or water so your little one finishes the full dose in one go.
