The Spectra Silicone Valve Set is a replacement duckbill valve for Spectra electric breast pumps, sold as a pack of two. This small soft-silicone part sits between the breast shield and the collection bottle, and it does a lot of quiet work: it lets milk flow one way into the bottle while stopping it from flowing back towards the tubing and pump. If your suction has started to feel weaker, a worn valve is one of the most common (and easily fixed) reasons — and swapping it is far cheaper and quicker than replacing anything else.
Also known as a duckbill valve, this is a genuine wear part rather than an upgrade. Over time the delicate lip of the valve can fray or develop tiny tears, which stops it sealing properly. Keeping a fresh set on hand means you're not caught out mid-routine. The valves are made from soft silicone and are BPA/DEHP-free, and each is a one-piece design, so there are no fiddly separate membranes to line up when you reassemble or clean.
How it works
- One-way valve: The duckbill opens to let expressed milk pass from the breast shield into the collection bottle, then closes to prevent milk flowing back towards the tubing and pump mechanism.
- Vacuum seal: Because it seals with each cycle, an intact valve helps the pump maintain the suction it needs to express effectively — which is why a torn or worn valve tends to show up as weaker suction.
- Milk-path hygiene: By keeping milk from reaching the tubing and motor, the valve helps keep the milk path clean.
Fit and compatibility
These valves are designed for regular Spectra flanges and fit Spectra electric breast pumps, including the S1, S2, 9 Plus and SG. As with any spare, it's worth checking your exact pump model before ordering. The two-piece pack means you can fit both valves if you double pump, or fit one and keep the other as a spare.
When to replace
If you pump regularly, you can expect to replace your valves roughly every three months. Reduced suction while pumping is usually the first sign that a valve is on its way out. To check, examine the top of the valve closely — the lip is delicate and can be prone to fraying or tiny tears that aren't always obvious at a glance. The valves are easy to replace, with no tools needed.
Pandylane Pro Tip: If your pump suddenly feels less powerful, inspect the valves before assuming there's a fault with the motor. A hairline tear in the soft silicone is easy to miss but is one of the most common causes of a drop in suction — and it's a quick, low-cost fix.
