The Pigeon Peristaltic Nipple 2 Pack is a set of two slim-neck replacement teats for Pigeon's Flexible bottle system, made from thick, ultra-soft silicone. These narrow-neck peristaltic nipples are designed to flex with the natural movements of your baby's mouth, making them a practical way to replace worn teats or keep a spare or two in rotation.
Developed off more than 60 years of Pigeon research into how babies suckle, the teat has an "accordion-like" section that stretches in response to the peristaltic (wave-like) motion of a baby's tongue. The silicone is soft enough to move with your baby yet firm enough that it doesn't collapse easily during a feed, and its elasticity is designed to feel similar to that of the breast.
How it Works
- Peristaltic teat section: An accordion-like portion lets the teat stretch and move in response to the wave-like motion of your baby's tongue.
- Ultra-soft, super-stretchable silicone: Made from thick, double-thickness silicone with elasticity designed to feel close to the breast, so the teat flexes and bends with your baby's mouth movements.
- Dome-like shape: The rounded profile encourages your baby's mouth to open naturally and rests gently against the lips.
- Air Ventilation System (AVS): The venting is designed to reduce the intake of gas, a potential cause of colic, as your baby feeds.
Choosing your flow
Pigeon Peristaltic teats come in a range of hole shapes and sizes, each matched to a developmental stage. Flow is best guided by how your baby feeds rather than age alone, so use the stages below as a starting point:
- Size S (from 0 months): A round-cut opening designed for newborns, letting milk flow consistently and gradually while jaw muscles are still developing.
- Size M (from 4 months): A round-cut opening for steady, gradual flow as feeding develops.
- Size Y (from 6 months): A Y-cut opening that gives a variable flow — milk flows when there's pressure on the teat, encouraging your baby to suck to draw it out.
- Size L (from 9 months): A larger Y-cut that lets more milk through, helping older babies with stronger jaw muscles control the flow themselves.
Best For
The Pigeon Peristaltic Nipple 2 Pack is a good option for parents who:
- Use Pigeon's Flexible slim-neck bottle system and need replacement teats
- Want a soft, stretchable silicone teat that moves with their baby's feeding motion
- Like to keep a couple of teats in rotation for cleaning and sterilising
It may not be the right fit if you use Pigeon's SofTouch wide-neck bottles, as slim-neck and wide-neck teats are not interchangeable.
Signs like coughing, gulping, spilling milk or pulling away can point to a flow that's too fast, while long, effortful feeds or frustration can suggest a flow that's too slow. If feeding difficulty persists, it's worth speaking to a healthcare professional.
