A peri bottle is a simple, angled squeeze bottle designed for one job: gently rinsing the perineal area with warm water after using the bathroom, during the first days and weeks of postpartum recovery. It's a small addition to a hospital bag that makes a genuinely uncomfortable part of early recovery easier to manage.
After a vaginal birth, urine passing over a graze, tear, or episiotomy site can sting sharply — one of the most common small discomforts new mums describe. Spraying warm water over the area while you go helps dilute that sting, and using the bottle again afterwards to rinse before patting dry (rather than wiping) is a gentler way to keep the area clean while it heals.
How to Use
- Fill the bottle with warm (not hot) tap water.
- Spray gently over the perineum while urinating, to reduce stinging.
- Use it again afterwards to rinse the area before patting — not wiping — dry with toilet paper, front to back.
- Refill and keep within reach for the next use.
Plain warm water is all that's needed. No need to add salt, antiseptic, or anything else.
