Panado Paediatric Peppermint-Flavoured Syrup is an alcohol-free and sugar-free liquid medicine containing paracetamol, used for the symptomatic relief of pain and fever in children. The liquid format and peppermint flavour make it a practical option when you need a paediatric paracetamol syrup you can measure and give according to the dosage instructions on the product label or as directed by a healthcare professional.
Each 5 ml contains 120 mg of paracetamol, and it comes in a 100 ml bottle. Because it's alcohol free and sugar free, it may suit families who prefer to avoid those in a children's medicine. As with any paracetamol product, the concentration and dose matter more than the flavour or the format, so it's worth taking a moment to work through the directions below before the first dose.
How to use
Shake the bottle before use if instructed on the current product label, and measure each dose accurately using a suitable medicine measure. Allow at least four hours between doses, give no more than four doses in any 24-hour period, and do not use for longer than five days without consulting a healthcare professional. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
The dose depends on your child's age. The dosing information supplied with the product is:
| Age | Dose |
| Infants under 3 months | 10 mg/kg (approximately 0.41 ml/kg). Should only be given under the direction of a doctor or qualified healthcare professional, particularly if fever is present. |
| Children 3 months to 1 year | 2.5 ml to 5 ml (60 mg to 120 mg paracetamol) |
| Children 1 to 5 years | 5 ml to 10 ml (120 mg to 240 mg paracetamol) |
| Children 6 to 12 years | 10 ml to 20 ml (240 mg to 480 mg paracetamol) |
Repeat every four hours if needed while symptoms persist, to a maximum of four doses in 24 hours. Always follow the current product label and your healthcare professional's guidance, and speak to a pharmacist or doctor if you're ever unsure of the correct dose for your child.
Storage
Store according to the instructions on the current product packaging. Keep the bottle tightly closed, protect it from excessive heat and direct sunlight, and do not use after the expiry date.
Disclaimer
Do not exceed the recommended dose. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use if the child is allergic to paracetamol or any ingredient in the product.
Speak to a healthcare professional before use if the child has liver disease, has kidney disease, is severely underweight or malnourished, is taking other medicines, or has a chronic medical condition.
Do not give this medicine together with any other product containing paracetamol. Too much paracetamol can cause serious liver damage, even if the child appears well, so always check the active ingredients in cough, cold, flu and pain medicines before combining products. Paracetamol overdose is a medical emergency — if too much has been given, seek urgent medical attention immediately, even if the child has no symptoms, and take the bottle or packaging with you.
Stop use and seek urgent care if signs of an allergic reaction occur, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat; difficulty breathing; severe rash; or blistering or peeling skin. Consult a doctor if no relief is obtained with the recommended dose, fever or pain persists or worsens, the child is unusually sleepy or difficult to wake, is not drinking, has fewer wet nappies, has repeated vomiting, difficulty breathing or develops a rash, or if you are unsure of the correct dose. Any fever in a baby under 3 months requires prompt medical assessment.
Pandylane Pro Tip: Many cough, cold and flu remedies also contain paracetamol. Before you reach for a second product, check its active ingredients against this one so you don't accidentally double up on the same active.
