The NUK Silicone Space Soother is a single silicone dummy built around NUK's asymmetric teat shape, with a flat, thin baglet and a vented, heart-shaped shield designed with baby's delicate skin in mind. It's a non-nutritive sucking soother — offered for comfort rather than feeding — and comes with its own reusable case that doubles as a microwave steriliser, so you can keep it clean and close to hand at home or in the nappy bag.
The teat has NUK's signature asymmetric profile: flatter on the underside with more room for the tongue, and curved on top to sit against baby's gum. The baglet is kept narrow, flat and thin, which is designed to reduce pressure on the developing jaw and teeth, while leaving space for the natural sucking movement. Around the mouth, the shield uses extra-large ventilation holes and air channels to keep air circulating against the skin. This is the silicone version in the Sun design, made in Germany and available in two age stages.
A shape and shield designed for comfort
Silicone is clear, shape-stable and odour-resistant, which is why NUK offers this soother in a silicone teat. The heart-shaped shield is contoured to follow the anatomy of baby's face and leaves clearance around the mouth and nose, while the thin, slim neck keeps the teat low-profile in the mouth. In independent market research (114 mothers, Germany 2018), more than 95% of babies accepted the NUK soother — a useful indicator of acceptance, though every baby has their own preference and some simply won't take a dummy.
A case that works as hard as the soother
Sustainability is part of the design here: rather than disposable packaging, the soother arrives in a sturdy, reusable box. It keeps the soother clean, dry and protected on the go, and it also works as a steam steriliser in the microwave — so you're not hunting for separate equipment when you need to freshen it up.
How it Works
- Asymmetric orthodontic teat: The teat is flatter and scooped on the underside to give the tongue room to move, and curved on the upper surface to sit against the gum, so it needs to be inserted the correct way up.
- Thin, narrow neck and baglet: Kept extra slim and flat, the neck is designed to reduce pressure on the jaw and teeth while still allowing a natural sucking movement.
- Vented heart-shaped shield: Extra-large ventilation holes and air channels around the mouth shield keep air circulating against the skin around baby's mouth.
- Glow button: The button carries a harmless glow-in-the-dark material to help you locate the soother in a dark room — a find-it feature rather than a sleep feature.
How to Use
Before the very first use, place the soother in boiling water for 5 minutes, using plenty of water to avoid damage. Before every further use, clean it thoroughly with a mild washing-up liquid and then sterilise it.
To sterilise in the case:
- Place the soother inside the case with the teat facing downward.
- Add water up to the indicated line.
- Close the lid and microwave for four minutes.
- Carefully remove the case and pour out any remaining water.
- Squeeze out any liquid trapped inside the teat, then leave the soother to dry and cool before use.
Best For
The NUK Silicone Space Soother is a great option for parents who:
- Want a silicone soother with NUK's familiar asymmetric orthodontic teat shape
- Are looking after delicate skin around the mouth and value the extra ventilation of the shield
- Want a reusable case that also works as a microwave steriliser
- Like being able to spot the soother in the dark thanks to the glow button
It may not be the best fit if you:
- Need a newborn size — this soother is offered in the 6–18 and 18–36 month stages
- Prefer a softer natural-rubber latex teat
Disclaimer
A dummy is for comfort sucking and should never delay a feed, be sweetened or be modified. Follow safe-sleep guidance: no clips, cords, toys or attachments should be used with a soother while baby is sleeping. For hygiene and safety, replace the silicone soother after one to two months of use, or sooner if you notice any tears, cracks, stickiness or discolouration, and inspect it before each use. This model complies with European safety standard EN1400 and is BPA-free. Designs and motifs may vary depending on availability; if you have a preference, please add it to your order notes and we'll supply what we can.
Pandylane Pro Tip: As baby's palate grows, the soother size that comforts them changes too — NUK offers stages across the age range, so if your little one starts to reject a soother they used to love, it may simply be time to move up a stage rather than a sign they've gone off it altogether.
