The NUK Silicone Space Night Soother 2 Pack is a glow-in-the-dark silicone soother (also called a dummy or pacifier) designed with a baby's sensitive skin in mind. A baby-safe luminous button gives off a soft glow in the dark, so you can find the soother quickly and easily at night without switching on the lights and fully waking everyone. Like any soother, it's intended for non-nutritive sucking — comfort sucking rather than feeding — and comes as a pack of two in a sturdy, reusable case.
Two features do the heavy lifting here: the ventilated shield and the teat shape. The shield is a curved, heart-shaped design meant to follow the contour of a baby's face, with extra-large ventilation openings and air channels around the mouth area. Because the saliva that comes with sucking can irritate delicate skin, this design is intended to give the skin around baby's mouth room to breathe. NUK offers the soother across age stages — 0–6, 6–18 and 18–36 months — so you can match the teat and shield proportions to your baby's stage.
The teat and design
The teat has NUK's asymmetric, orthodontic-style shape: flatter and thinner on the underside and curved above, with a slim, narrow neck. It's designed to sit against baby's palate and leave the tongue and jaws room to move during natural sucking. As always, teat shape is a design intention rather than a guaranteed outcome, and acceptance is very individual — some babies take to a shape straight away, others prefer something different. In NUK's own independent market research, 95% of babies accepted the NUK teat shape (307 mothers, Germany 2017), and 98% of mothers felt the design gave the skin around the mouth room to breathe (114 mothers, Germany 2018). The teat is made from clear silicone, is BPA-free, 100% made in Germany, and made to comply with the European safety standard EN 1400.
How it works
- Vented, heart-shaped shield: The curved shield is shaped to follow baby's face, and the extra-large openings plus air channels around the mouth are designed to keep skin ventilated.
- Asymmetric teat: Flatter underside, curved upper surface and a thin, narrow neck — designed to leave the tongue and jaws room for natural sucking movements.
- Glow-in-the-dark button: A harmless luminous material glows softly so the soother is easy to locate in a dark room. This is a locate-at-night feature, not a sleep aid.
- Silicone construction: Clear, shape-stable silicone that is BPA-free and made to comply with EN 1400.
Cleaning and sterilising
Before the first use, place the soother in boiling water for 5 minutes, using enough water to avoid damaging it. For everyday use, clean it thoroughly with mild washing-up liquid and then sterilise. The reusable case doubles as a microwave steriliser: place the soothers inside with the teats facing down, add water up to the indicated line, close the lid and microwave for four minutes. Carefully remove the case, pour out any remaining water and let the soothers cool before use. Water can get trapped inside the teat during cleaning — squeeze it out and leave the soother to dry.
Best for
The NUK Silicone Space Night Soother is a great option for parents who:
- Want a soother that's easy to find in the dark without turning the lights on
- Are looking for a design that gives the skin around baby's mouth room to breathe
- Prefer NUK's asymmetric, orthodontic-style teat shape
- Like having a spare on hand (it's a 2-pack) and a reusable case for when you're out and about
It may not be the best fit if:
- Your baby prefers a round/cherry or one-piece teat — acceptance is individual and no shape suits every baby
- You'd rather not have a glow feature
Good to know
Keep clips, cords, toys and attachments out of the cot, and follow full safe-sleep guidance for your baby's sleep space. If the soother falls out once your baby is asleep, there's no need to replace it, and it should never be forced. A soother shouldn't replace or delay a feed — always check for hunger cues first. Inspect the soother regularly and replace it if you notice any tears, cracks, stickiness, swelling or discolouration, and follow the replacement guidance on the packaging.
Pandylane Pro Tip: Don't throw the case away — it's built to be reused as both a travel box that keeps the soother clean and dry on the go, and a microwave steriliser at home, so you have one less thing to pack.
