Goes great with ...
  • Screen-free exploration: A hands-on board that invites independent play away from screens.
  • Variety of elements: Spinning gears, sliding beads, touchable textures and simple manipulatives give little hands plenty to discover.
  • Fine motor practice: The interactive pieces give children the chance to practise coordination, focus and fine motor skills at their own pace.
  • Montessori-inspired: Designed to support self-directed, open-ended play.
  • Lightweight and portable: At around 2 kg it's easy to carry from room to room or take along.
  • Handcrafted in South Africa: Made locally from durable, high-quality materials, with securely attached elements.
  • Choice of colours: Available in green, grey or pink to suit your space.
  • Doubles as decor: The Wally the Whale shape adds a warm design touch to a play corner or nursery.

The Kiani Wally the Whale Portable Activity Board is a handcrafted, whale-shaped busy board that turns any corner of the home into a spot for hands-on, screen-free play. It brings together a range of interactive elements on one lightweight panel, giving little hands plenty to explore, twist, slide and touch while you stay close by.

Shaped like Wally the Whale and finished in your choice of green, grey or pink, it's designed to be moved from room to room or packed along for the day, so play isn't tied to one spot. Made in South Africa from durable, high-quality materials with securely attached elements, it's built to be handled, revisited and enjoyed over time.

What's on the board

Wally packs several types of play into a single panel, each inviting a different kind of exploration:

  • Spinning gears: Turn and interlock, giving little fingers something to set in motion and watch.
  • Sliding beads: Move back and forth along their track for repeatable, cause-and-effect play.
  • Touchable textures: Add a sensory layer to explore by feel.
  • Simple manipulatives: Encourage focused, hands-on fiddling and problem-solving.

Together, these give children the chance to practise fine motor skills, coordination and focus at their own pace, and to engage in open-ended, sensory-rich play rather than being handed a single fixed activity. The Montessori-inspired design leans into that idea of independent, self-directed exploration.

Made for family life

At 45 × 30 × 5 cm and around 2 kg, the board is easy to lift, carry and tuck away, which makes it practical for smaller homes and for keeping a familiar toy on hand when you're out and about. Its whale shape and soft colour options also mean it doubles as a considered design piece in a play corner or nursery rather than something you'll want to hide away.

The Kiani Wally the Whale Portable Activity Board is a great option for parents who:

  • Want to encourage independent, screen-free play with a variety of things to explore
  • Are looking for a portable activity board they can move around the home or take along
  • Like the idea of a Montessori-inspired, sensory-rich toy that supports fine motor practice
  • Appreciate a handcrafted, locally made piece that also looks good in the space

As with any activity toy, it's designed for supervised play. Colour options may be selected at ordering.
