The Haakaa Silicone Feeding Tube Set is a supplemental feeding system designed to deliver milk to your baby at the breast, connecting a bottle of supplemented milk to your breast through a soft, slim feeding tube. It's made with families navigating feeding challenges in mind — latching problems, low milk supply, or a little one who needs some extra nourishment or help learning to feed — and offers a way to supplement while keeping baby at the breast.
By running a fine tube from an elevated bottle to your nipple, the set lets your baby latch and suckle naturally while receiving a steady, controllable flow of supplemented milk. This means both you and your baby can experience the physical sensation of breastfeeding during a supplemented feed, while ensuring baby receives adequate nutrition. The flow can be managed in two ways: by gently adjusting your grip on a squeezable Haakaa Gen. 3 Silicone Baby Bottle (sold separately), or by using the included flow controller for a more consistent rate.
How it works
- Feeding at the breast: The thin outlet tube sits 1–2 cm from your nipple and rests gently in baby's mouth alongside the breast, so baby continues to latch and suckle while drawing supplemented milk through the tube.
- Gravity-assisted flow: Placing the bottle higher than the end of the outlet tube starts the milk flowing, so you don't need to force it through.
- Two ways to control the flow: With a squeezable Haakaa Gen. 3 bottle you can increase or ease pressure to speed up or slow the flow, or use the flow controller for a more consistent rate you can dial in to suit your baby.
What it works with
For the best performance, the feeding tube is designed to be used with the Haakaa Gen. 3 250ml Silicone Baby Bottle and an X-shaped variable flow nipple (both sold separately). It can also be adapted to any other baby bottle fitted with an X-shaped variable flow nipple. Take care with other cross-cut teats, though — the thick inlet tube can tear incompatible or smaller teats, which is why Haakaa recommends pairing it with a Gen. 3 Variable Flow Nipple.
Materials and cleaning
The tubing is made from food-grade silicone and polyformaldehyde, and the set is BPA, PVC and phthalate-free. To clean the tubing, fill the bottle with warm soapy water and squeeze it through, using the included cleaning brush for the wider sections and flushing the thinner sections through several times before rinsing with fresh water. Use only soft-bristle brushes or soft sponges, as hard scourers can scratch the surface, and note that exposure to detergent may make the silicone look cloudy over time. You can sterilise the non-plastic components with a steam steriliser or by boiling for 2–3 minutes, but keep plastic components out of boiling water and sterilisers, avoid bleach-based agents or sterilising tablets, and don't use a UV steriliser, as it may shorten the product's lifespan. Everything packs away into the included carry case, so it stays together and travels easily.
How to Use
- Insert the thicker inlet tube into the larger hole of the tube adapter, then insert one end of the thinner outlet tube into the smaller hole and thread the other end through the flow controller.
- Push the inlet tube down through the X-shaped opening on the Variable Flow Nipple and pull it through until it reaches the milk in the bottle, then attach the nipple to the bottle.
- Place the end of the outlet tube 1–2 cm from your nipple and secure it with the medical tape.
- Place the bottle in an elevated position, higher than the end of the outlet tube, to start the milk flow.
- Introduce your baby to your nipple, then gently place the thin outlet tube into their mouth to begin feeding.
- Control the flow by squeezing the Gen. 3 bottle body — more pressure to speed it up, less to slow it down — or by adjusting the flow controller to suit your baby.
