The Frida Mom Instant Ice Maxi Pads combine a cold pack and an absorbent maternity pad in one, so you can soothe a sore, swollen perineum after a vaginal birth without fiddling with frozen homemade "padsicles" or ice chips in a glove. Each pad has an instant crack-and-cool ice pack sealed inside. Fold it until it pops and it starts cooling straight away, no freezer needed.
The pad itself is a full-length maxi pad that covers the whole perineal area from front to back, absorbs up to 260g of fluid and has an adhesive back so it stays put in your underwear. A super-soft top layer keeps things comfortable on tender skin, and the pads are free from dyes and fragrances. The pack contains 8 pads.
Key Features
| Instant cold pack |
What it does: Delivers cooling relief to the perineal area. Why it works: Activated by folding the pad until it pops, giving you the recommended 20-minute cold therapy window without a freezer. |
| Absorbent maxi pad (260g) |
What it does: Absorbs postpartum bleeding while you cool. Why it works: Combines cold therapy and protection in one layer, so there's less to juggle in your underwear. |
| Full front-to-back coverage |
What it does: Covers the entire perineal area. Why it works: The length of the pad means the cold reaches where you need it, with an adhesive back to stop it shifting. |
| Super-soft top layer |
What it does: Cushions sensitive, healing skin. Why it works: Free from dyes and fragrances, so there's nothing harsh against a tender perineum. |
How to Use
- While the pad is still in its sleeve, fold it in half from top to bottom until you hear a pop, then shake gently to start the cooling.
- Tear open the sleeve, remove the pad and peel off the paper strip to reveal the adhesive.
- Place the pad into your underwear, covering the full perineal area.
- Apply cold therapy for no more than 20 minutes at a time, then swap to a regular maternity pad.
For extra chill, you can keep unopened pads in the fridge before use. Don't freeze them, and don't try to reactivate or reuse a pad once it's been used.
Best For
The Frida Mom Instant Ice Maxi Pads are a good option for parents who:
- Are recovering from a vaginal birth and want relief from perineal soreness and swelling
- Want cold therapy and an absorbent pad in one, rather than layering ice packs over pads
- Are packing their hospital bag and want something ready to use after the first postpartum bathroom trip
It may not be the right fit if you:
- Are looking for a pad for all-day use, as the cold pack makes them bulkier than a standard maternity pad
- Have circulatory issues or diabetes, unless your doctor has said cold therapy is fine for you
Good to Know
For external use only. Don't apply cold therapy for longer than 20 minutes at a time, don't sit or lean directly on the cold pack, and don't apply to open wounds. If you'd like to use one on a C-section incision, check with your doctor or midwife first. If a cold pack is leaking, throw the pad away immediately. Store at room temperature, away from heat and open flames. Keep out of reach of children.
Pandylane Pro Tip: Pair these with the Frida Mom Disposable Postpartum Underwear. Full-coverage underwear keeps the bulkier ice pad snug and in place, so the cold stays where it's needed.
