The Dr Brown's Medical Bottle Infant-Paced Feeding Valve is part of the Dr. Brown's Specialty Feeding System — an oral feeding solution developed in collaboration with medical professionals for infants with complex feeding challenges. It's designed for feeding needs often seen with cleft lip and palate, ankyloglossia (tongue-tie), high-arched palate, oro-neuromotor dysfunction, common or rare syndromic sequences and craniofacial anomalies, where an ordinary bottle and teat may not be the right fit.
The valve is inserted into any level Dr. Brown's standard silicone nipple to create a "compression" nipple. This allows an infant to express a bolus of milk through lingual (tongue) movements during sucking attempts, without a caregiver needing to manually squeeze the bolus into baby's mouth. Used together with the Dr. Brown's Natural Flow bottle system, it's designed to assist the infant in self-regulating during oral feedings. This 120 ml retail pack arrives with a Level 1 nipple and a spare valve, so you have a backup on hand.
How it works
- Compression nipple: The Infant-Paced Feeding Valve fits into a Dr. Brown's standard silicone nipple to create a compression nipple, so baby draws milk through their own tongue movements rather than relying on a caregiver to squeeze.
- More typical bolus placement: Milk is placed more typically during feeding, rather than being manually expressed into the oropharynx.
- Consistent flow: The valve is designed to give a consistent and reliable nipple flow rate through the feed.
- Non-squeeze method: Because it doesn't rely on squeezing, it's designed to help decrease gassiness, air intake and burping.
- Natural Flow vent qualities: It carries the vented design of the Dr. Brown's Natural Flow bottle, which the brand associates with assisting digestion and helping preserve vitamins A, C and E.
Simple to assemble, clean and reuse
The system requires minimal assembly, which is intended to help parents and caregivers feel confident and competent setting it up. It's a fully reusable, BPA-free system that's easy to clean — dishwasher, sterilise and autoclave safe — and it keeps a typical feeding bottle design so it doesn't look or feel out of the ordinary at feeding time. It's made in the USA and is 95% recyclable.

It's available both at retail and through hospitals and clinicians, and it works best as one part of an individual, professionally guided feeding plan — needing it is not a parental failure. Please follow the guidance of your paediatric team, feeding therapist or clinician on whether this device is appropriate for your baby, and how to use and monitor feeds.
