The Beurer SI 40 Steam Vaporiser and Inhaler is a compact 2-in-1 steam device that works as both a steam inhaler for colds and congestion and a facial sauna for skincare prep. It comes with two interchangeable masks — a steam inhaler (aroma) mask and a facial steamer (facial sauna) mask — so a single unit covers warm steam inhalation and a spa-like facial treatment, all with one-button operation.
Rather than being a room humidifier, this is a personal steam appliance you hold your face over for a short, targeted session. It heats water into a warm vapour at a consistent temperature of roughly 43°C, ready in about 2–4 minutes, with sessions of up to 10 minutes. An adjustable steam regulator lets you dial the output up or down to suit the treatment.
Two masks, two treatments
The steam inhaler mask is designed for warm steam therapy during colds, coughs, sinus congestion, allergy symptoms and dry-air irritation, and can be used with saline solution or a few drops of essential oil. The facial sauna mask opens pores and boosts hydration, making it a useful pre-treatment step before masks, serums or moisturisers, when your skin can better absorb what you apply next.
Aroma-ready steam
The SI 40 is compatible with saline solution and essential oils for soothing steam inhalation. When using the aroma function, remember to fill both the aroma container and the water heater tank — the aroma function won't work if the water heater tank is empty.
Made to be lived with
It's lightweight, quiet in operation and easy to keep clean thanks to removable elements that can be disinfected between uses. A built-in thermal fuse guards against overheating, and the unit is mains powered (220–240V). Beurer, the German health and wellbeing brand, backs it with a 3-year warranty.
How to Use
The SI 40 is versatile, with two distinct uses depending on the mask fitted:
Steam inhaler mask — relief for congestion
- Fill the water heater tank with saline solution (or distilled water), staying below the MAX level. Add a few drops of essential oil to the aroma container if you're using the aroma function — and make sure the water heater tank is filled too.
- Secure the tank before switching on to avoid hot water spills.
- Switch on with the single button and wait 2–4 minutes for steam to build.
- Inhale the warm vapour comfortably for up to 10 minutes. Do not press your face directly against the mask.
Facial sauna mask — hydrate and prep skin
- Fill the tank with distilled water only, staying below the MAX level, and secure it before use.
- Switch on and allow 2–4 minutes for the device to be ready.
- Enjoy a relaxing session of up to 10 minutes to open pores and boost hydration, then follow with your usual masks, serums or moisturisers.
How it Works
- Warm steam generation: The unit heats water into a warm vapour at a consistent temperature of about 43°C, ready in roughly 2–4 minutes.
- Adjustable output: A steam regulator lets you increase or decrease the steam, with an average particle size ranging from about 11.75 µm (slider down) to 13.12 µm (slider up).
- Auto stop: The steam stops automatically once the water runs out, and a built-in thermal fuse helps prevent overheating.
Best For
The Beurer SI 40 Steam Vaporiser and Inhaler is a good option if you:
- Want one device that handles both steam inhalation for congestion and facial steaming
- Prefer adjustable steam and simple one-button operation
- Like the option to add saline or essential oils to your steam
It may not be the right fit if you're looking for a room humidifier to run through the night, as this is a personal steam appliance for short, hands-on sessions.
Disclaimer
Use only distilled water, saline solution or essential oils. Do not use Vicks, menthol rubs or any greasy or sticky substances — these can damage the device. Steam reaches around 43°C, so do not press your face directly against the mask, and never exceed the MAX water level. Nasal inhalation can be done daily; limit facial steaming to 2–3 times a week and no more than 20 minutes a day. Steam therapy is not a substitute for medical care — if symptoms persist or worsen, speak to a healthcare professional.
Pandylane Pro Tip
Pandylane Pro Tip: If the unit switches off or won't produce steam, check the simple things first — that there's at least 2 ml of water or saline in the tank, that the suction tube reaches the bottom, that everything was reassembled correctly after cleaning, and that the nozzle is clean and unblocked. Air bubbles in the tank can also interrupt it; a gentle swirl usually releases them.
