The Beurer FT 100 Instant Non-Contact Thermometer is an infrared thermometer that reads temperature from the forehead without touching the skin, so you can take a measurement without waking or unsettling a sleeping or fussing baby. Hold it at the right distance, and it gives a reading in seconds — helpful in those moments when you just want to check quickly and calmly.
As well as body temperature, this non-contact forehead thermometer measures ambient (room) and surface temperature, so the same device can also check the temperature of a room or the warmth of a bottle or bath. Readings display on an easy-to-read, blue illuminated XL screen in either degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit, and it is classed as a medical product.
How it works
- Infrared, non-contact measurement: The thermometer senses temperature from the forehead without skin contact, which reduces disturbance and cross-contact between household members.
- Distance sensor: A built-in sensor helps you hold the device at the correct measuring distance of 4–6 cm, using an LED and acoustic signal to guide placement — consistent distance matters for a reliable reading.
- LED temperature alarm: A colour-coded LED indicates the reading — green up to 37.5°C, yellow from 37.5°C to 37.9°C, and red from 38.0°C. The colour is a device threshold to help you see a result at a glance, not a diagnosis.
- Multiple modes: Body, ambient and surface modes let you switch between measuring a person, a room or an object such as a bottle or bath.
Accuracy and everyday use
For forehead measurement, the stated accuracy is ±0.2°C across the range of 35°C to 42°C (±0.4°F from 95°F to 107.6°F), and ±0.3°C across the remaining measurement range. For object measurement, the stated accuracy is ±2.0°C or ±4.0°C from 22°C to 80°C. It stores up to 60 body-temperature readings so you can keep track over the course of an illness, and the sound control can be switched on or off — useful if you'd rather not add a beep near a sleeping baby. An automatic switch-off helps conserve the two 1.5 V AAA batteries, which are included, and it comes with a storage box to keep it together in your first-aid kit.
Best For
The Beurer FT 100 Instant Non-Contact Thermometer is a great option for parents who:
- Want to check temperature without touching or disturbing a sleeping or distressed baby
- Would like one device that also reads room temperature and the warmth of bottles or baths
- Prefer a memory function to follow readings over time and a clear, backlit display
It may not be the best fit if you:
- Prefer a validated contact method such as an electronic axillary (armpit) thermometer for very young infants
Pandylane Pro Tip: Non-contact readings can be affected by distance, angle, sweat, hair, hats and moving between hot and cold rooms. Let baby settle in a stable room for a few minutes, follow the device instructions and the 4–6 cm distance guide, and repeat an unexpected reading before drawing any conclusions.
Disclaimer
A thermometer estimates temperature to help you recognise and track fever — it does not diagnose the cause or severity of illness. Always consider a reading alongside your child's age, the measurement site and how they seem overall. Very young infants and any child who looks unwell need prompt clinical assessment regardless of the number. Follow the supplied instructions for correct use.
