If you're looking for a dust mite spray for beds, cots and fluffy toys, it's made to be worked into a regular cleaning routine on fabrics rather than used as a once-off treatment.

It's a versatile fabric spray that can be used on beds, pillows, bedding, cots, curtains, carpets, car seats, fluffy toys and upholstery, so one bottle covers most of the soft surfaces around the nursery and the rest of the home. SoPure is South African made, and the formulation is free from added fragrance, alcohol, petrochemicals, insecticides, animal tallow, chlorhexidine and benzalkonium chloride. It's also biodegradable and not tested on animals.

Where you can use it

Because it's a fabric-and-upholstery spray rather than a hard-surface cleaner, it suits the porous, fibre-based items dust mites tend to settle in — mattresses, pillows, bedding, cot fabrics, curtains, carpets, car-seat fabric, upholstery and plush toys. Always make sure the fabric is clean before you spray, since visible soil can sit between the spray and the surface you're actually trying to treat.

How to use it

Make sure the fabric surface is clean before spraying.

Shake the bottle well.

Hold roughly 50 cm from the surface and spray onto the fabric and into the air.

Allow 5 minutes of contact time.

For best results, repeat weekly.

A closer look at the formulation

This is a fragrance-free, alcohol-free spray, which is worth knowing if scented or spirit-based sprays don't suit your household. Alongside its role as a dust mite inhibitor, SoPure describes it as an anti-bacterial fabric spray that aids in addressing bacteria, mould and mildew on fabrics. Keep in mind that efficacy against any specific organism depends on following the directions, including the shake, distance and 5-minute contact time above.

Best For

The SoPure Dust Mite Baby Spray is a good option for parents who:

Want a fragrance-free, alcohol-free spray for the soft furnishings and gear around their baby

Are managing dust mites on beds, cots, carpets and plush toys as part of a weekly routine

Prefer a formulation free from added scent, petrochemicals, insecticides and animal-derived ingredients

It's available in this 500 ml bottle as well as a larger 5 litre size if you go through it quickly or want to top up smaller bottles.

Disclaimer

Store upright and safely out of the reach of children, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
