Part of Love to Dream's Swaddle Up range, it's a first-stage swaddle made for babies from birth who still startle easily and tend to settle best when snugly contained — but who like to have their hands close by.

Unlike a traditional wrap, there's no folding or tucking to master. You simply zip your baby in for a secure, snug fit in seconds, with no loose layers to work loose during the night. It's made from a single layer of a breathable cotton-and-elastane blend and carries a 1.0 TOG rating, which the manufacturer suggests for moderate room temperatures of around 20°C to 24°C.

How the ARMS UP design works

ARMS UP position: Patented wings hold your baby's arms up rather than pinned down, so they can bring their hands towards their face — a position that lets babies self-settle in a way that feels natural to them.

Twin zipper: A two-way zip opens from the bottom, so you can get to a nappy without unzipping the whole swaddle or fully waking your baby.

Hip-healthy design: Certified 'hip-healthy', the lower section leaves room for the recommended flexion and movement of the hips and legs.

Single-layer construction: One layer of breathable fabric is designed to help reduce the risk of overheating, while the snug shape keeps everything close without loose bedding to kick off.

Choosing the right size

The Original Swaddle Up is sized by weight rather than age, which helps you get the snug-but-not-tight fit a swaddle needs. It comes in four sizes: Newborn (2.2–3.8 kg), Small (3.5–6 kg), Medium (6–8.5 kg) and Large (8.5–11 kg). Choosing by your baby's current weight, rather than their age, gives the most reliable fit.

Understanding the TOG rating

TOG (Thermal Overall Grade) is a measure of how much warmth a garment provides — the higher the number, the warmer the piece, though a higher TOG doesn't necessarily mean thicker fabric. This 1.0 TOG version sits in the middle of the range and is intended for rooms of roughly 20°C to 24°C. For warmer rooms you'd typically want a lighter TOG, and for cooler rooms a warmer one, adjusting your baby's base layers to suit the room.

The Swaddle Up is machine washable and tumble-dryer friendly, so it's easy to keep in rotation.

Best For

The Love to Dream Stage 1 Original Swaddle Up is a great option for parents who:

Have a newborn who startles or fights being wrapped, and would settle with their hands near their face

Want the security of a swaddle without learning to fold and tuck a wrap

Are dressing baby for a moderate room and want a single-layer, breathable option

Value quick nappy access via a two-way zip

It may not be the best fit if you:

Are past the swaddling stage and need an arms-out sleep sack or transition suit

Have a baby showing signs of trying to roll (see the safe-use note below)

Pandylane Pro Tip: The Swaddle Up is designed to layer with other Love to Dream sleepwear, so if your room runs cooler you can add a base layer underneath rather than reaching for a warmer swaddle straight away.

Safe-use note

Because this swaddle contains your baby's arms, it has an ability-based stopping point: stop using an arms-contained swaddle once your baby shows signs of trying to roll, and follow the instructions on the product. As with any sleepwear, place your baby on their back to sleep on a firm, flat, level surface with a clear sleep space.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0728/9559/4673/files/love-to-dream-stage-1-original-swaddle-up-1.jpg?v=1784521099
